32 students fr om China came to Tomsk State University for a summer school. During three weeks they will upgrade their Russian language skills, get acquainted with the urban and university environment and learn how to solve everyday issues – from dormitory to bank cards and medical examination. The program is designed for those who come to study at TSU under network educational agreements: two years of study in China, and two at Tomsk State University.
Summer school will last until August 31. The school is organized by the Faculty of Philology with the participation of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering and the Faculty of Chemistry.
This year, 32 students of Dalian Polytechnic University and Chongqing University of Arts and Science became participants in the summer school. A cultural and educational program organized for them includes intensive classes in the Russian language, various events and excursions.
— The summer school was intended as a smooth beginning of study for students who, after two years of study in China, come to TSU for the third year, – said Svetlana Ermolenko, head of the department of Russian as a foreign language, associate professor at the Faculty of Philology. – Sometimes students who have just completed their first year in China come to TSU. Despite the fact that they have another year of study in China, they already want to get acquainted with our university.
The school agenda includes meetings with deans, excursions to the laboratory of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering and the Faculty of Chemistry, master classes and acquaintances with the university campus. Such pre-school training will help international students quickly adapt to life in Siberia.
— By the time students begin to study at TSU, they will already know wh ere they are going, with whom they will work, and will meet familiar people here. By September 1, they will already feel confident at the university, without the traditional stress for foreigners at the start of the school year, – added Svetlana Ermolenko.
Joint "2+2" programs – one of the formats of international cooperation at TSU. The student spends two years in Tomsk and two years at a partner university, and upon graduation receives two diplomas.
Now such programs are open with eight Chinese universities: Dalian University of Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, North China University of Technology, Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences, Shandong Polytechnic Institute, Shandong University of Finance and Economics, Shenyang Pedagogical University and Shenyang Polytechnic University. In total, TSU has 43 agreements with universities and scientific organizations of China.
In the 2026/27 academic year, 770 Chinese citizens study at TSU. TSU has been collaborating with China since 2007, when the Confucius Institute was opened at TSU.
