A delegation of the Embassy of Yemen in Russia visited TSU for the first time

A delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen recently visited Tomsk State University, headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Yemen to Russia Ahmed Salem Saleh Al-Wahishi. The visit may contribute to further collaboration between TSU and universities and organizations in the Republic of Yemen.

The guests were presented the history of TSU and the main fields of scientific and educational activities. Ambassador Al-Wahishi thanked the TSU staff and Rector Eduard Galazhinsky for the warm welcome and expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation on behalf of his country.

The two countries have been cooperating in various spheres for 95 years. For example, many of Yemen's military personnel received their education and training in the Soviet Union.

“Because of the situation that Yemen is currently facing, much of our cultural property has been stolen and has found its way to the black market. Russia plays an important role in various international concessions and helps us return these items. We visited Museum of Siberian Archeology and Ethnography named after V.M. Florinsky and observed your experience in preserving similar cultural property. We realize that Russia includes not only Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also other regions. Thank you for allowing us to see the culture, wealth, and opportunities of Siberia,” said the Ambassador Plenipotentiary.

The Ambassador expressed hope that this meeting was one of the first steps in collaboration between the universities of Yemen and Russia. He noted that the universities of the Republic of Yemen have already signed memorandums of cooperation with several universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kazan that could be signed with Tomsk universities in the future, and he invited TSU representatives to visit Yemen when the situation there normalizes.

The first student from Yemen enrolled in TSU in 2019, and now there are already five of them: Two are studying at the Faculty of Pre-university Training and three at the Higher IT School (HITs). In addition, international students from Yemen participated in the winter 2023 online winter school on international management, which was held by TSU Institute of Economics and Management.

TSU students Ous Abdulrahman Saeed Al-Samet and Belal Mohammed Abdullah Ali Muthanna shared their experience of enrolling and studying in Tomsk at the meeting with Embassy representatives.

“I would like to thank the university for its warm atmosphere, which helps when you are away from home. The education provided here is one of the strongest. I studied in various universities and saw different attitudes towards students. I and other students are grateful to the university for the fact that they solve different problems and help with education and accommodation,” Ous Abdulrahman Saeed Al-Samet noted.
