Abdurrahman Nabil Hassan, a student of the Faculty of Psychology of Tomsk State University from Indonesia won the nomination “Culture: Russia between the lines” of the competition “WOW! RUSSIA”. In his video, he showed the wooden platbands on the windows of houses in Tomsk.
The competition was organized by ANO “National Priorities” within the framework of the national project “Youth and Children” with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and RUDN University.
The jury selected 14 winners from 532 participants in four categories: “Study without filters” (education), “Russia in the frame” (tourism and travel), “Russia between the lines” (culture) and “What Russia taught me” (life). Contestants – international students – were offered to choose a suitable nomination and tell about the brightest moments and impressions of their student life in Russia.
Abdurrahman shot a video about window platbands and told about the meaning of carved patterns and symbols. For example, the sun on platbands symbolizes life and energy, and carved birds, according to Russian beliefs, bring happiness to the house.
927 applications were submitted for the competition from 532 international students from 83 universities in the country. The most active were students from India, China, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The organizers said that another 93 participants were invited to an educational program – a media workshop organized by ANO “National Priorities” and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. They are waiting to go to Russia.
