Implants and bone cement developed by the World-Class Scientific Center were presented at an international symposium

The II international symposium “Advanced Materials and Technologies in Medicine” was held in Yekaterinburg. More than 60 researchers and practitioners fr om Russia and Myanmar demonstrated their achievements in the field of biocompatible materials, coatings and implants, presented cases on the introduction of new methods, on working with the population during a pandemic and other technologies.

– One of the tasks of the World-Class Scientific Center is to bring research inventions to a high level of readiness and introduce them into the real sector of the economy, – said Alexander Vorozhtsov, professor at Tomsk State University and the director of the World-Class Scientific Center “New Special-Purpose Materials”. – Such events allow sharing experience with colleagues and presenting our products to potential industrial partners.

The symposium was organized by Tomsk State University and the World-Class Scientific Center “New Special-Purpose Materials” in cooperation with the Ural State Medical University. The partners of the event were the Solikamsk Magnesium Plant and the Aurora Center for Dentistry and Implantology.

– The symposium was organized to discuss topical issues and accelerate the introduction of new technologies into clinical practice. Leading specialists in the field of implantology, materials science, design and industry representatives participated in the symposium, – emphasized Ekaterina Marchenko, head of the TSU Laboratory of Medical Alloys and Shape Memory Implants.

More than 60 scientists from Myanmar, Tomsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Tyumen took part in the symposium. They made reports in three areas: medical materials, experimental and clinical aspects of the use of new implant materials, materials of modern high technologies. Researchers from Tomsk State University shared their developments in the field of biomedical materials, in particular, “bone cement”, 3D stents for arteries, metal mesh implants.

Colleagues from Myanmar shared their experience in introducing new medical technologies, preventing COVID-19 infections during a pandemic, etc.

In March 2026, a delegation from Tomsk State University visited research and medical institutions of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, wh ere TSU delegates signed a number of MoUs, one of them involves the creation of a mirror laboratory in the field of biomedical materials research.

The international symposium was held as part of the development program of the World-Class Scientific Center “New Special-Purpose Materials” carried out under agreement No. 075-15-2025-607 of 01.07.2025.

The world-class research center “New Special-Purpose Materials” was established by the decision of the Commission for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation in May 2025 within the framework of the national project “New Materials and Chemistry”. The coordinator of the center is Tomsk State University. The Center development program is officially supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of the Russian Federation, and the administration of Tomsk Region.
