India's new Ambassador to Russia has visited TSU

A delegation from the Embassy of India headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation, Vinay Kumar, visited Tomsk State University. The delegation learned about the opportunities of the University of Tomsk and research and innovative activities of Tomsk State University, as well as the project “Employment Promotion” and additional education programs at TSU. The purpose of the visit was to discuss new opportunities for cooperation.

There are 17 agreements between TSU and Indian universities, including universities that are included in the world rankings — Delhi University and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Moreover, TSU is the coordinator of the Russian-Indian Network.

The main areas of research collaboration with Indian universities are the study of AI and big data, materials science, biodiversity, and climate change processes. Currently, there are about 20 Indian students studying at TSU, the most popular field of study being software engineering (Higher IT School).

The visit began with a meeting participated by TSU Rector Eduard Galazhinsky, First Vice-Rector Victor Dyomin, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Alexander Vorozhtsov, and Acting Vice-Rector for International Affairs Svetlana Rybushkina.

Meeting with Indian delegation

Victor Dyomin informed the delegation about the educational programs and opportunities for international students implemented at TSU, presented the university development program, and introduced the University of Tomsk.

Alexander Vorozhtsov presentated on the main research areas and developments in collaboration with industrial partners. He spoke about the development of varnishes and paints modified with nanoparticles that reduce the activity of bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19, and the use of such nanoparticles in medicine.

Mr. Vinay Kumar delivered an open lecture for Tomsk residents on India's domestic and foreign policy, international cooperation, and partnership with Russia. He shared his impressions of the city: In his opinion, Tomsk is unique and historic city. The Ambassador met with Indian students studying at TSU and other Tomsk universities at the end of the visit.
