Master's program in Innovations in Medicine will have a new format

Eduard Galazhinsky, Rector of TSU, Olga Kobyakova, Rector of the Siberian State Medical University, and representatives of Maastricht University (Netherlands) held a working meeting at TSU. They discussed the collaboration of the three universities, including the transformation of the Master's program Innovations and Society: Science, Technology, and Medicine. It is proposed that the individual modules of this program can be courses of advanced studies for medical specialists and the basis for a program of professional re-training of undergraduates and master’s students.

This academic year, TSU jointly with the Siberian State Medical University and Maastricht University began the new Master's program Innovations and Society: Science, Technology, and Medicine. The program has no analogs in Russia, and it is in demand among managers in science, innovation, health, managers of innovation institutions, and technology entrepreneurs.

Now individual blocks of this program are being launched as short courses of further vocational education for physicians. Practitioners may be interested in such modules as Health Management, Integrative Approaches to Healthcare Organization, Technologies in Medicine, Innovations for Health, and Dilemmas of Decision-Making in Modern Healthcare.

- By June 1, we will decide on additional formats in which it is possible to develop this program and will direct our resources there, - Eduard Galazhinsky noted. Now a student in the Master's program can choose one of two specializations - Innovations in Health and Medicine and Management of Technoscience. These specializations are part of the Science and Technologies Studies area, which studies how social, political, and cultural values affect the development of science and technological innovation, and vice versa. Special attention is paid to the topic of medicine and health.

Another result of the meeting was the decision to hold the IV International Scientific Conference “Social Sciences and Innovations for Health” at TSU in 2019. In 2017, the conference gathered more than 100 people from 21 countries.

- Today, the issues of patient involvement in the treatment process, issues of professional burnout, and questions of patients' satisfaction with medical care are widely discussed all over the world. These areas are at the intersection of specialties, at the junction of disciplines. In addition to doctors and healthcare organizers, these topics are of interest to psychologists, sociologists, philosophers, economists, lawyers, and a number of other specialists. Therefore, the conference site is a unique opportunity to exchange opinions and achievements with colleagues not only from different countries but also from other areas of knowledge, - Olga Kobyakova emphasized the relevance of the conference.
