Maria, a student in the Master's program for Russian as a Foreign Language at Tomsk State University's Faculty of Philology, has been chosen as one of 30 finalists for the competition “Masters of Russian Language 2024”. As part of the competition, she will receive free training in Moscow and have the opportunity to participate in a one-month pedagogical practice abroad, which will take place in Maria’ favorite country, Vietnam.
Maria credits her success in the competition to the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language, which she was introduced to through her volunteer work during her bachelor's studies. From her first year, Maria has been an active volunteer for TSU-Online, an organization within the TSU International Division. Over the years, she has also become a volunteer for the International Student Services Center, also known as the "department of care international students," and the Russian Speaking Club. The main focus of the International Student Services Center is to provide individual support for students upon their arrival, during hospital visits, and for any other requests. They also have a Buddy system in place, which allows international students to make connections with Russian-speaking students.
The main areas of work of the TSU-Online adaptation department are individual support of students upon arrival, at the hospital and for other requests and the Buddy system, which allows international students to make friends with Russian-speaking students.
The "Masters of Russian Language" competition, in which she is participating, is organized by Rossotrudnichestvo in collaboration with the Moscow State Linguistic Institute. The finalists have been selected for an additional educational professional development program, "Modern Innovative Educational Technologies and Means of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language in Foreign Educational Organizations". This program will be studied from October 1 to 11.
The master's program in "Russian as a Foreign Language" has been offered at TSU since 2010. Students from the Faculty of Philology have been consistently participating in the "Masters of Russian Language" competition and have been recognized as finalists and winners.
