At the beginning of January 2024, a new system of journals now included in the List of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) came into effect. More than half of the journals whose founder or co-founder is Tomsk State University improved their category or received it for the first time, since they were admitted to the HAC List in 2023.
“This process, along with the rating of Russian Science Citation Index journals and the creation of the White List of scientific journals, has become a necessary stage in the development of the national system for assessing the performance of scientific activity,” said Nikita Glushchenko, director of the Center for Enhancing and Promoting Scientific Periodicals.
The international experience of ranking into quartiles (Q1-Q4) was adapted, and the journals of the HAC List were proposed to be divided into three categories — K1, K2, K3, corresponding to quantitative and qualitative criteria. The quantitative categorization was mainly based on the data of the Russian Science Citation Index system.
Currently, the main scope of application is the activity of HAC dissertation councils: Candidates for the degrees of candidate and doctor of sciences, as well as members of dissertation councils, are required to publish in this List.

Imagology and Comparative Studies is included in the main HAC list (from December 19, 2023). It is Indexed in Scopus (Q3) and Web of Science and equal to the category K1.
The Rusin journal is registered and published in Moldova (TSU is a co-founder). It is Indexed in Scopus (Q1) and Web of Science and equal to the K1 category.
The Chemistry of Plant Raw Materials Academic Journal is published at Altai State Technical University (TSU is a co-founder). It is indexed in Scopus (Q4) and equal to the K2 category.
