On May 31, a delegation from the University of Houston (USA) will work at TSU.
The purpose of their visit is a collaboration with the TSU StrAU Institute of Biomedicine. Within the framework of the visit there are some events:
1) Open lecture Optical Technologies of Biomedical Engineering Today and Tomorrow
Lecturer: Akay Metin, founder and professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Houston.
Prof. Metin Akay is currently the founding chair of the new Biomedical Engineering Department and the John S. Dunn professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Houston. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey in 1981 and 1984, respectively and a Ph.D. degree from Rutgers University in 1990
Dr. Akay has played a key role in promoting biomedical education in the world by writing and editing several books, editing several special issues of prestigious journals, including the Proc of IEEE, and giving more than hundred keynote, plenary and invited talks at international conferences, symposiums and workshops regarding emerging technologies in biomedical engineering.
2) Open lecture Optical Coherence Tomography: How to See a Beating Heart from Within?
Lecturer: Kirill Larin, Head of Graduation Programmes, Professor, Director of the Laboratory of Biomedical Optics at the University of Houston.
Dr. Kirill Larin received an M.S. in Laser Physics and Mathematics from Saratov State University in 1995, an M.S. in Cellular Physiology and Molecular Biophysics from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2001 and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2002. Before joining UH in 2004, Larin completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UT-Galveston in the area of Biomedical Engineering and Optics. Larin's research interests include biomedical engineering/optics with particular emphasis on diagnostic imaging, biosensing, microscopy and classification of tissues.

3) The report about planning research on Biophotonics in the Institute of Biomedicine
After these events will start a discussion on the theme: Biophotonics is the Top Line of Biotechnology for the Nearest Future. Later, the laboratory of the Institute will lead an excursion.
Venue: Lenin Ave., 34a, large conference hall of the TSU Research Library, the old building of the National Library, the second floor.
