Students of the Faculty of Innovative Technologies (FIT) of Tomsk State University repair unmanned aerial vehicles that Tomsk schools use in their educational programs. Young engineers diagnose and tune drones to make the device flying again. The work is performed at the student design bureau “GeoskanTOMSK” within the discipline “UAS Maintenance”.
Tomsk State University provides its students with real practice and actively cooperates with research, academic and production intitutions throughout Russia. The FIT project is aimed at developing the technical skills of students, as well as supporting educational institutions in the region that use Geoskan drones for educational purposes.
We shall remind that the GeoskanTOMSK student design bureau was opened at FIT TSU, with the support of the Geoskan company, where students are engaged in design activities and solve engineering tasks for the company.
— Students learn to diagnose, competently eliminate malfunctions and perform preventive maintenance of the device, – said Natalya Nesterova, deputy dean for academic affairs of TSU FIT. – This is a unique opportunity for students to put their knowledge into practice and make a real contribution to the development of education in the region.
Natalya Trofimova, head of the Center for Unmanned Aviation Systems of secondary school No. 4 of Tomsk, commented that students, as real specialists, performed a complete diagnosis of the equipment, gave feedback and recommendations on its correct operation. Repaired drones are already used in the study process at the school.
Drone repair and maintenance continues. In the near future, other school drones will be ready for use in educational programs, helping students master their advanced technologies.
TSU develops unmanned technologies and teaches students and schoolchildren to work with them. Within FIT pilot programs future engineers master both the development of unmanned aerial vehicle designs and their control systems, as well as practice their skills in the design bureau and with projects of industrial partners. Along with this, students get fundamental engineering education and become specialists in demand in the labor market. Such type of education fully complies with the main principles of the new model of higher education: fundamentality, practice orientation and flexibility of educational programs.
