The first university in Siberia is ready for the new year

Pilot Project: Transition to Implementation

Tomsk State University is moving fr om experiment to systemic activity in the context of a new model of higher education. TSU is one of six universities participating in a pilot project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation to improve the education system in Russia. The experience, ideas and developments of these universities form the basis for a large-scale reform – from September 1, 2027, all Russian universities and institutes will switch to a new system of education.

One of the main indicators of the effectiveness of the pilot project for the Russian Government is student satisfaction with the conditions of the educational process. Recent monitoring showed that 89% of TSU students participating in pilot programs are fully satisfied with the conditions of the educational process.

In 2025, 46 educational programs have already been launched at TSU. More than 1,400 students are participating in the pilot project. Besides, 303 companies are involved as partners, including Polyus, Geoskan Group of Companies, TASS and others. Employers determine the program requirements, develop the content and results of educational programs, while employees of enterprises participate in the study courses, students and teachers pass internships at industrial enterprises.

Student scholarships

From September 1, TSU increases the basic scholarship. For bachelors and other first-level students, it will be from 3.5 to 5.3 thousand rubles, for master students – from 6 to 8 thousand rubles. For prize-winners and winners of Olympiads and students who entered TSU in 2025 with high scores – from 30,000 to 100,000 rubles for the first semester, depending on the achievements.

It is worth noting that at TSU students can apply for more than 25 types of scholarships and prizes. Young scientists of the university today rank second in Russia in the number of RAS awards (receiving up to 100,000 rubles), become recipients of the Presidential Scholarship, which is 75,000 rubles. Today, the maximum scholarship of a TSU student is 178,000 rubles. It is Dmitry Tkachev, who is engaged in the creation of new materials with given properties.

Higher Engineering School of Agrobiotechnology: new level

Higher Engineering School of Agrobiotechnology (HESA) is located at a new address. The building on the St. Karl Marx, 19 (former Agricultural Institute) has now become the building No. 19 of TSU. Students of new agro-, bio- and eco-directions will study here. These will be specialists with modern knowledge of the nature of life, digital modeling skills and new approaches to solving environmental and food problems. Besides, it is planned to open a veterinary clinic, wh ere students under the guidance of experienced teachers will be able to practice their skills.

Campus upgrade

The university allocated 90 million rubles for capital repairs of the 5th academic building. There will be a new building on Lenin Ave., 49. It will be a five-story building with an area of almost 13 thousand square meters.

Besides, the university made some improvements to the central alley in the grove, the lecture halls in the main building and buildings No. 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, as well as in the Research Library and the sports center.

A new coworking space will soon be created jointly with VK in building No. 2. In September students and employees will have a modern and comfortable place for meetings, open and work events.

Tomsk State University (TSU) is the oldest university in Siberia and the Far East, created by the decree of Emperor Alexander II in 1878. This is a classical university that focuses on natural sciences, technical fields and humanities.

More than 15 thousand students from 67 countries of the world study at TSU. TSU has its offices in Novosibirsk, Yaroslavl and the Altai Republic.

In 2028, TSU will celebrate its 150th anniversary.
