The University of Tomsk has opened its representative office in Indonesia

Tomsk State University, in collaboration with Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), has officially opened the representative office of the University of Tomsk in Surabaya, Indonesia. This is the first representative office of a Russian university in Indonesia. It will provide information, documentation, and academic support for cooperation between the universities and the two countries.

“Indonesia is a country with a tremendous potential. We have been cooperating with this country since 2015. At that time TSU was a leader in Project 5-100, and we were one of the first Russian universities in Indonesia,” Eduard Galazhinsky, TSU Rector, Chairman of the Tomsk Consortium of Universities and Scientific Organizations, highlighted. “The representative office of University of Tomsk at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) demonstrates the potential of Tomsk as an international educational city, and this partnership will expand the area of educational and technological collaboration between Indonesia and Russia. The collaboration will ensure international technology transfer and increase the number of Russian and Indonesian students, faculty, and staff in bilateral projects.”

Tomsk State University and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) began to develop the concept of the representative office of the University of Tomsk in January this year, and by that time TSU and ITS were already cooperating. In May, a TSU delegation led by Artyom Rykun, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, visited ITS and agreed to open the representative office of the University of Tomsk.

“The opening of the representative office was a result of continuous support from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Moscow, represented by His Excellency Ambassador Jose Tavares, as well as the Education Attaché, Dr. Adi Nuryanto. We are also grateful for the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Jakarta, in particular, Her Excellency, Ambassador Ludmila Vorobyeva, and Minister-Counselor Veronika Novoseltseva. Vladimir Plotnikov, Ambassador of Russia in Indonesia and neighboring countries (1999-2004) is a long-term friend of our university, and he provides TSU with invaluable and constant support, in particular consultations and connections," Artyom Rykun stated.

Tomsk universities also plan to talk about the technologies they can introduce to the Indonesian market. For example, one of the areas of TSU's collaboration with Indonesia is the creation of new approaches to renovation and restoration of ecosystems using the unique Aeroschup technology. TUSUR is interested in promoting its own IT solutions, while TPU is eager to enter Indonesia with an advanced training program in oil and gas. Indonesians are also interested in teaching methods in Tomsk universities.

Indonesian students can also learn Russian as a foreign language in the representative office of the University of Tomsk. Such areas of collaboration are the office's first priority. The permanent presence of Tomsk universities’ employees will be ensured in the office on a rotational basis for this and other goals. Furthermore, TUSUR is ready to provide its representatives for information technology issues.

In the future, visitors to the representative office of the University of Tomsk will be able to access the electronic libraries and databases of Tomsk universities. More distant prospects include the possibility of medical diagnostics for Indonesian residents by Tomsk specialists in the format of online consultations.
