Tomsk physicist wins top prize in a competition among female researchers at Technoprom

Winners of the Academina competition were awarded prizes at 10th international technology forum Technoprom 2023 in Novosibirsk. In the PhD category, the winner is lecturer of the TSU department of plasma physics Natalya Semenyuk, who is a candidate of science in physics and mathematics and a researcher at the Institute of High-Current Electronics. Three more Tomsk scientists are among prize and diploma winners.

Natalya Semenyuk was only a second-year student of the TSU Faculty of Physics when she joined the laboratory of theoretical physics of the Institute of High-Current Electronics. Her research team works on computational simulation for a wide range of applications in plasma and gas discharge physics. The focus of Semenyuk’s interests is runaway electrons in atmospheric and low pressure discharge. Along with research, she’s teaching at the TSU department of plasma physics, which is based on the Institute of High-Current Electronics.

At the award ceremony, three other Tomsk women scientists were singled out. Olesya Lepokurova is a director of the Tomsk branch of Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics. She took the first prize in the Director of the Research Organization category. Marina Ibragimova, a chief researcher at the Cancer Research Institute and an associate professor at the department of vertebrate zoology and environmental protection of the TSU Institute of Biology, was awarded the first prize in the PhD category. A First Discovery diploma was awarded to Polina Zenkova, a researcher of the Zuev Institute of Atmospheric Optics and a graduate of the TSU Faculty of Physics.

For reference: The Academina competition is held by the interregional non-profit organization Federation of Women with University Training together with the state public research library of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Its goals include support of talented and driven women in science, education, and economy, and popularization of professions in science and higher education. Winners are selected in 12 categories from among academicians, corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, doctors of science, PhDs, professors, associate professors, directors of research organizations, university rectors, early-career scientists.
