Translators from all over the world listen to the lectures of the online translation quality management course developed by TSU with the company Palex Tomsk. The course, hosted on the Coursera platform, teaches them a better understanding of what requirements customers place on texts and how to become a high-quality professional.
- A professional knows that user manuals cannot be translated in the same way as promotional products or legal documentation. After all, each type of content requires a special approach. The online course tells you how to correctly build the translation process: analyze the materials, determine the requirements and risks, choose the necessary stages and suitable performers, and meet the deadline and budget. This is important for managers. And for an ordinary translator, the information will be relevant on what the choice of a particular translator for the project depends on and how it relates to the budget and timing, - says Alexander Barabash, an expert at Palex and the author of the massive open online course (MOOC).
In addition to freelance translators, the course will be of interest to the staff of translation and localization departments at large international companies who need not only to translate their content into the language of a particular country but to do this taking into account many features of native speakers.
- There are several approaches to determining the quality of a translation,- Alexander explains. - But the most important thing is that a good translation should achieve the same goal for which the source text was created. We talk about this in the course.
The online course is published on Coursera and is read in English. However, this does not mean that it will be useful only to translators from Russian to English or vice versa. The course provides a basic concept of quality for translation from any language. Already, course lectures are being listened to in Egypt, Mexico, Guatemala, the USA, Canada, and European countries.
