A delegation from Raden Intan State Islamic University of Lampung (Lampung, Indonesia) visited Tomsk State University. TSU Rector Eduard Galazhinsky and Rector Wan Jamaluddin discussed potential areas of cooperation, including ecology, chemistry, biology, engineering, and other fields.

Raden Intan State Islamic University of Lampung a public Islamic university established in 1968, aims to promote Islamic education in Indonesia and was ranked 73rd in Indonesia's national ranking in 2024.

The delegation included Rector Wan Jamaluddin and Head of the International Office Bambang Budiwiranto.

“We have a strong relationship with Indonesia and consider collaboration with your country to be one of our top priorities. Even the first motto of Imperial Tomsk University, 'Light comes from the East,' proposed by Professor Vasily Markovich Florinsky, reflects this sentiment,” noted TSU Rector Eduard Galazhinsky. “Today, we are proud to have the largest community of Indonesian students in Russia and highly value their contributions. They are responsible, efficient, and deeply patriotic, sharing our values of love for our homeland.”

Recently, Raden Intan State Islamic University of Lampung, originally an Islamic university with a strong liberal arts program, has decided to establish a Faculty of Science and Technology. They are particularly interested in developing areas such as marine research, fish farming, water purification technologies, and waste processing. For example, they are considering testing TSU's biocidal nanoparticles, currently used for decontamination in hospitals, in tropical conditions. These particles could potentially be used to coat ship hulls and reduce fouling. Additionally, they are interested in testing TSU's holographic camera for non-invasive plankton research.

During their visit, the delegation had the opportunity to tour several of TSU's laboratories, including those at the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Physics and Engineering, and the Agrobiotech. They also visited the Institute of Distance Education, the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, and the Higher IT School. The parties are also exploring the possibility of developing joint educational programs in both English and Russian, as well as implementing new educational technologies.

Tomsk State University has been collaborating with Indonesia since 2015, when TSU joined Project 5-100 and made a commitment to strengthen ties with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
