TSU Faculty of Philology organizes Russian language school for students from China

The Faculty of Philology is hosting a summer school for the Russian language. The program, which will run for one month, aims to improve the language skills of approximately 50 students from various universities in China. In addition to Russian, the students will also have the opportunity to learn about TSU, Tomsk, and Russian culture. Half of the students will continue their studies at TSU after completing the program.

“Our goal is to help international students adapt to the Russian-speaking environment,” said Svetlana Ermolenko, Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language at the TSU Faculty of Philology. “This is not our first time organizing such schools. Classes will be held daily on weekdays, with a focus on developing communicative skills and the ability to understand spoken Russian. The course is adaptive and designed to prepare students for studying joint educational programs at TSU.”

This year, 47 students from Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences and North China University of Technology will participate in the adaptive course. Svetlana Ermolenko expects that most of these students will stay in Tomsk after completing the program and continue their studies in joint educational programs offered in collaboration with Chinese universities. These programs are available at the Faculty of Physics and Engineering, Faculty of Philology, and Institute of Arts and Culture.

In addition to Russian language classes, the school's curriculum includes special modules on Russian culture. During the adaptive course, Chinese students will learn about Tomsk and its history, basic facts about Russian culture, and participate in several master classes. They will also have the chance to attend the International Folk Crafts Festival "Ax Day," which will take place in Okolitsa Park from August 17 to 24, 2024.

“I have always wanted to visit Tomsk and to explore Siberia, which the most mysterious and at the same time interesting region of Russia,” said Wang Kaiqi, a student of the Russian language school from China. “I will spend a whole year here, which I am sure will be filled with various interesting events. The classes will allow me to adapt and to better understand some details. I would like to thank the organizers and instructors of the school for that.”
