At the 13th China-Russia Arctic Forum, TSU's First Vice-Rector, Victor Dyomin, delivered a speech highlighting the university's research potential in Arctic exploration and potential areas for collaboration within the strategic project "Global Changes on Earth: Climate, Ecology, Quality of Life". The forum was held at the Ocean University of China in Qingdao.
The Russian-Chinese Arctic Forum was founded in 2012 by Saint Petersburg State University and Ocean University of China. This year's forum, the 13th in the series, was hosted by Ocean University, which was also celebrating its 100th anniversary. Representatives from Russia and China discussed various topics, including humanitarian exchange, environmental protection, and research and technology innovations in the Arctic region. The forum was co-organized by the Northern Forum and the Russian-Asian Consortium for Arctic Studies.
During the forum, Victor Dyomin proposed a joint research project to develop an underwater observatory at the Ocean University in Qingdao. This project would enable the monitoring of water bodies and areas, such as the Yellow Sea, to assess the ecological situation.
It was proposed at the forum to create a special network of ecological and climatic transects in Northern Eurasia. This network will enable the monitoring of environmental changes along meridional and latitudinal transects, with the ability to interpolate data to intermediate points. TSU has already demonstrated successful experience in creating transects, such as the 2,500 km transect that includes multiple research stations and observation points spanning from Aktru station in the Altai Mountains to the Arctic Ocean.
