In the admission campaign of 2020, 13 applicants from Iran were registered at Tomsk State University. Three of them expect to enter graduate school, and the rest are planning to enter the master’s programs, choosing such areas of training as information technology, mathematical analysis, modeling of robotic systems, economics, geology, landscape architecture, museology, and philosophy.
Currently the collaboration between Tomsk and Iran is mainly in research and development, and it was precisely this sector that Tomsk Governor Sergey Zhvachkin emphasized in a recent conversation with Kazem Jalali, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation. An online meeting connecting the regional leadership and the Iranian embassy was held on July 9.
As the governor of the Tomsk Region emphasized, Tomsk is the student capital of Russia. Young people from 93 countries study at the city’s universities, a world-class scientific and educational center has been created, and high-tech production is being developed.
TSU accepted the first Iranian student in 2017, who entered the bachelor's program at the Department of International Relations of the History department. In 2018, the number of students from Iran increased to five. Now there are two Iranian students at TSU: a master’s student in the English-language Human Development program and a bachelor's degree student in the Faculty of Philology. Moreover, this year student-philologist Alireza Gorbani took 1st place in the regional round of the Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language, “Time to Learn Russian!”
