TSU has been recognized as the top regional university in Russia in THE 2025 ranking

Tomsk State University of Russia ranks as the top university amongst regional universities in Russia in the annual World University Rankings. The British publication Times Higher Education (THE) compiled the 2025 rankings, which includes 2,092 universities worldwide from 115 different countries.

15 Russian universities were ranked in the top 1000 of THE rating. While the leading universities dropped in position compared to last year, the total number of Russian universities included in the ranking increased to 81.

In the latest ranking, Tomsk State University has been placed in the 501-600 group and is tied for 5th-7th place with Moscow Engineering Physics Institute and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

2.         Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (251-300th place)

3.         Bauman Moscow State Technical University (351-400th place)

4.         National Research University Higher School of Economics (401-500th place)

5.         Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (501-600th place)

6.         Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (501-600th place)

7.         Tomsk State University (501-600th place)

8.         Saint Petersburg Mining University (601-800th place)

9.         Innopolis University (601-800th place)

10.       National University of Science and Technology MISiS (601-800th place)

11.       Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (601-800th place)

12.       ITMO University (801-1000th place)

13.       Kazan Federal University (801-1000th place)

14.       Novosibirsk State University (801-1000th place)

Oxford University (United Kingdom) takes the first place in the Times Higher Education 2025 ranking, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and Harvard University (USA), Princeton University (USA) and Cambridge University (UK).
