On January 19, the traditional Winter School on International Management in English was launched at the Institute of Economics and Management of Tomsk State University. For the sixth year, the event unites students, scientists, industry experts fr om around the world to promote a fruitful discussion on professional issues and find the most effective solutions.
This year, more than 200 people from different countries signed up for master classes and discussions. Every year, the geography of participants is becoming wider and includes students and professionals from Russia, USA, India, China, Iran, Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Cyprus, Peru, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and a number of African countries – Uganda, Sudan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria, Ghana, Benin, Mali.
Artyom Rykun, Vice-rector for International Affairs welcomed the participants at the opening ceremony. He spoke about the ties of the Institute of Economics and Management with leading companies in the region and the country.
— If you become a student of the Institute of Economics and Management, you will be engaged not only in its community, but also in a large professional community, which can be very useful for your future career, – said Artyom Rykun.
The school program includes master classes in English, wh ere students participate in discussions (general or in groups). Among the topics discussed within the school are international trade, issues of the global economy, features of global marketing of consumer goods, the influence of subcultures on consumption, approaches to design thinking in solving problems, and others.
Up to 100 people joined the event online, and some of the participants, due to the time difference, were watching recorded broadcasts. Every day, the participants had to fill in the feedback forms, and upon graduation they will receive certificates that will help those wishing to enter the master course on International Management at IEM TSU.
Zhang Jie, a program graduate, assistant of the Department of Organizational Behavior and Personnel Management of IEM TSU, shared his experience in the International Management program at TSU. Olga Nedospasova, head of the International Management program, organizer of the Winter School, professor of IEM TSU, told about the training specifics.
Then participants from different countries had a virtual tour of the university campus, which has already become a good tradition of the Winter School in International Management.
The first joint session was devoted to the specifics of global marketing of consumer goods and strategies to prevent potential market failures due to cultural, economic, political and competitive characteristics. The master class was conducted by Irina Pavlova, Associate Professor of the Department of Strategic Management and Marketing.
The Winter School will last until January 23. On Thursday, January 22, there will be a key event – the round table “Insight Circle: Navigating International Management Challenges”, which will unite the experts from Russia, Kazakhstan and the United States.
— The world is changing fast. To be successful, you need to be flexible, creative and ready to study and understand the markets of different countries. A Winter School is the first step towards understanding and global thinking in the field of management, – added Olga Nedospasova.
