TSU invites to a public talk on the Day of Russian Science

Tomsk State University invites students, teachers and guests of the city to join the events dedicated to the Day of Russian Science. The participants may learn about the history of the Russian Academy of Sciences, take part in a scientific public talk and understand the work of TSU scientists at the Large Hadron Collider.

From January 23 TSU invites its visitors to the exhibition of student works on the research of TSU scientists – Homo Totus: present and future of humanities. The exhibition is located in the administrative hall of the TSU Research Library. It presents the works of students of the Design Department of the Institute of Arts and Culture. The exhibition shows a series of collages and infographics about research at TSU.

The exhibition “The First Violin: Nikolai Gezekhus in the History of the Imperial Tomsk University” is opened at the TSU Research Library until February 17. It is located on the first floor of the old building of the Library and is devoted to the 180th anniversary of the first rector of the first university in Siberia Nikolai Gezekhus (1845-1918). The exhibition demonstrates interesting facts from the life of Nikolai Gezekhus, his work as a professor and the first rector of the Imperial Tomsk University.

The main building of TSU hosts a mobile exhibition dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition is open until February 14. The exposition reflects the key achievements of Russian scientists and researchers that have strongly contributed to the development of Russian science and education over the past 300 years.

TSU museums will host the annual event “TSU Museums to Children about Science”. The exhibition is arranged for schoolchildren who will be able to have thematic tours to the university museums, attend popular science lectures, take part in exciting quizzes and quests. A solemn meeting of the scientific community will be held on February 7 at 2:30 pm in the large conference hall of the TSU Research Library. The university management will share the latest achievements of science and present the prospects of scientific and innovative activities.

On February 8 the Abiturient.Center there will show a movie by Maryam Makhieva “Through Dark Matter”. The movie tells about scientists at the Large Hadron Collider. One of the main characters is Irina Shreiber, a nuclear physicist and leading researcher at the Laboratory of Data Analysis of High Energy Physics at TSU.

The movie starts at 6:00 pm. Just before the movie, at 5:00 pm, Irina Shreiber will give a popular science lecture and answer questions.

The Day of Russian Science in the Siberian Botanical Garden of TSU will be celebrated under the slogan “Botanical Garden: scientific, floral, exotic”. It will offer its visitors the informative sites promoting the botanical science.

The following sites will be opened Botanical Garden on February 8 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm:

-        Young Naturalist (science for the youngest)

-        Carpological Collection (fruits and seeds)

-        Tasty and useful (herbal teas from Botanic Line)

-        Botany in details (exhibition of awards, scientific achievements and historical documents)

-        Science under the microscope (demonstration of seeds, pollen and plant pests)

-        Phytoncides (peppermint mysteries and more)

-        Woody Plants Ecoloto

-        Author's postcard for the Day of Russian Science

February 12 and 13: scientific and educational school “Pulse of Science” at the TSU Research Library. The purpose of the school is to tell researchers, scientific administrators, specialists in the field of scientific information on the current state of the scientific information, give practical advice on managing a scientific journal and personal brand of a researcher.

The program includes the issues of artificial intelligence in science, ways to manage a digital footprint, create a personal brand of a scientist, etc. Leading experts from the Pulse of Science, Antiplagiat, Eco-Vector and other companies will share their experience with the students of the school. February 13: public talk “Scientific Triptych. Pulse of Science” at the TSU Research Library. This is a joint educational project of the Research Library and the Council of Young Scientists of Tomsk Region. Young researchers will talk about the pulse phenomenon with regard to different sciences (cardiology, geophysics, scientometrics) and share opinions on their favorite books.
