Tomsk State University is among the top 100 universities in the world in terms of teaching quality, according to data for 2025 published on the Round University Ranking website. The university achieved this due to its flexible and student-centered teaching system, said Evgeny Lukov, TSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.

According to the 2025 global university rankings published on the RUR website, TSU ranks 172nd, or 4th among Russian universities, with only Moscow State University, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology staying ahead . Besides, in terms of teaching quality, TSU ranks 92nd in the world.

According to Evgeny Lukov, the RUR ranking shows that the university is developing a relevant, flexible, and “student-centered” system of higher education while maintaining the basic principles of a research university.

– New forms of education include the opportunity to obtain additional qualifications, practice-based training, involvement of industry leaders, and networking, including with foreign universities. An important part of education is the development of entrepreneurial skills, according to Evgeny Lukov.
