TSU opens a joint laboratory with UIN Raden Intan Lampung

Tomsk State University and Raden Intan State Islamic University Lampung (Indonesia) signed an agreement on a joint laboratory. In 2025, scientists will focus on holographic studies of the state and quality of water in local reservoirs, and will study the effect of biocidal materials in tropical conditions.

The agreement on the joint laboratory was signed by Alexander Vorozhtsov, acting vice-rector for research and innovation, and Wan Jamaluddin, rector of UIN Raden Intan Lampung, during the visit of TSU delegation to Indonesia.

Artyom Rykun, TSU Vice-Rector for International Affairs, notes that the agreement has been prepared for about a year, and the joint laboratory presents an interest to both parties. Scientists from UIN Raden Intan Lampung will be able to learn from the experience and competencies of Tomsk State University researchers, while TSU employees will have access to the research field and instrumental base of the Indonesian university.

— UIN Raden Intan Lampung is an Islamic university with programs in liberal arts and humanities. In 2024, with the participation of TSU, it started the creation of the Faculty of Science and Technology, which means its inclusion in the global academic agenda, says Artyom Rykun. – Cooperation with TSU within the framework of the joint laboratory will allow scientists from Lampung to see the “cutting edge of science” and adopt the experience and competencies of our researchers.

The joint laboratory will cover the following topics:

·         Biocidal materials in tropical seas and other topics related to the behavior of materials in tropics and tropical laboratory environments. For example, the study of paints and coatings that inhibit fungal growth on food packaging, building walls, and structures.

·         Holographic studies of the condition and quality of seawater in Indonesian seaports and fishing grounds.

·         Collection and utilization of micro- and mesoplastics in water bodies and coastal marine waters of Lampung Province (and the entire Indonesia in the future).

·         Cleanup and remediation of areas contaminated by palm oil waste.

In 2025, scientists will study the effects of biocidal materials in tropical conditions and holographic studies on the condition and quality of seawater.

TSU professor Alexander Vorozhtsov also held a lecture on nano- and high-energy materials at UIN Raden Intan Lampung, which was attended by the Indonesian university administration.

It should be noted that the technology of TSU for cleaning water bodies from palm oil waste and other agro-industrial pollutants was tested earlier in Indonesia.

The joint laboratory is supported by the federal program “Priority 2030” (national project “Youth and Children”), quotas of the Russian Government for the education of international students, as well as scholarships of the Mayor of Bandar Lampung and the Governor of Lampung for travel and training of employees of UIN Raden Intan Lampung at TSU.

For reference. Tomsk State University has been cooperating with Indonesia since 2015, since its participation in Project 5-100, when it was decided to establish close cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region. TSU has the largest number of Indonesian students in Russia: in the 2024/2025 academic year – 119, including 7 PhD students.
