TSU Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry joined the Russian delegation in China

Rector of Tomsk State University Eduard Galazhinskiy and Director of the Engineering Chemical Technology Center, acting Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry Alexei Knyazev as part of the delegation of the Russian Federation took part in the opening ceremony of the Years of Russian-Chinese Cooperation in Education. This event was part of a bigger initiative: the leaders of Russia and China – Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping – had a meeting today in Beijing.

At the opening ceremony of the Years of Russian-Chinese Cooperation in Education, Russian President Vladimir Putin said:

— Taking this opportunity, I would like to address young people, all those who take part in Russian-Chinese educational and scientific exchanges and sincerely wish each and every one of you to find a vocation that resonates with your aspirations, to achieve personal fulfilment, to devote yourselves wholeheartedly to your work and to attain outstanding results on the path you have chosen. In due course, you will assume responsibility for preserving and enhancing the rich traditions and partnership between Russia and China. I am convinced that you are fully equal to this responsibility and that you will successfully address all, even the most ambitious, tasks pertaining to the advancement of Russian-Chinese cooperation, the prospects of which are truly boundless.

Opening ceremony of the Years of Russian-Chinese Cooperation in Education

The leaders of Russia and China signed a Joint Statement on Further Strengthening Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation and Deepening Relations of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation. The Statement covers the high assessment of the results of interaction in education and the agreement to promote the further development of direct partnerships between Russian and Chinese educational institutions, joint events and exchange of experience between the two countries.

The document emphasizes the strategic importance of scientific and technical cooperation: “The parties believe that deepening scientific, technical and innovative cooperation is a strategic task to enhance the dynamics of development and increase the international competitiveness of the two countries. The parties will continue to strengthen the base of cooperation in the field of fundamental, applied sciences and advanced technologies, conduct joint research at a high level, regularly sel ect research projects, constantly improving their financing mechanisms, actively promote the expansion of mutual access to megascience facilities, and jointly achieve breakthrough results”.

In the 2026/27 academic year, 770 citizens of the People’s Republic of China study at Tomsk State University.

TSU and scientific and educational organizations of China signed 43 cooperation agreements. So, in 2007 the countries signed an agreement on the joint establishment of the Confucius Institute at Tomsk State University, and in 2009 – an agreement on the creation of the Pushkin Center at Shenyang Polytechnic University (沈阳理工大学) Both agreements are still valid and effective.

TSU has joint educational programs with Dalian University of Technology (大连理工大学), Beijing University of Chemical Technology (北京化工大学), North China University of Technology (华北理工大学), Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences (重庆文理学院), Shandong Polytechnic Institute (山东职业学院), Shandong University of Finance and Economics (山东财金大学), Shenyang Pedagogical University (沈阳师范大学), Shenyang Polytechnic University (沈阳理工大学).

At the beginning of 2026, Tomsk State University signed an agreement on a joint master’s program with Chongqing University of Science and Technology (重庆科技大学) on materials and chemical engineering and an agreement on a joint educational project with Capital Normal University (首都师范大学), which envisages three joint bachelor’s programs: Artificial intelligence and software development, Mathematical modeling and information systems,"Industrial and special robotics.

Besides, TSU signed an agreement with Shenyang Polytechnic University (沈阳理工大学) for the organization of state testing in Russian as a foreign language in China fr om 2026.
