A solemn ceremony of presenting state awards took place on the eve of the University Teacher’s Day in the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The rector of Tomsk State University, Eduard Galazhinskiy, was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Higher School of the Russian Federation” by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation. The award was presented by Valery Falkov, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
Valery Falkov emphasized that the Russian President Vladimir Putin set the task of ensuring the country’s technological leadership. Thus, it is necessary to train highly qualified personnel capable of implementing the largest projects in the economy, industry, science, and education.
Tomsk State University under the leadership of Eduard Galazhinskiy today is implementing a federal pilot project to modernize the higher education system, aimed at strengthening the country’s technological leadership. The new generation training model proposed by the university will be used to restructure the education system in all universities in Russia. At the moment, TSU already has 46 pilot programs, next year their number will triple. The new model will allow training specialists in close connection with enterprises of the real sector.
Today TSU is the fourth among Russian universities in the Golden League of the best universities in the world of the RUR Ranking and is the leader of the federal program “Priority 2030”. The University is also engaged in a strategy for the development of the chemical industry of the Russian Federation, implements a project of a world-class scientific center on new special-purpose materials. Since 2021, TSU has been the federal operator of the Active Employment Promotion Measures project for retraining citizens (formerly the Employment Promotion project), in which hundreds of thousands of citizens have received a new profession.
Eduard Galazhinskiy was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Higher School of the Russian Federation” for his merits in training highly qualified specialists, research and academic achievements and many years of conscientious work.
Along with the management of the university, Eduard Galazhinskiy conducts regular expert and analytical work as part of a number of key federal and regional collegial bodies. In November 2024, he became the head of the working group in “Higher Education” group as part of the development of the Strategy for the Development of Education of the Russian Federation for the period until 2036 with a perspective until 2040. Later he headed the “Personnel for Science” group – one of the expert groups that developed the strategy for the development of science in the Russian Federation until 2040. The TSU rector is a member of the Presidential Council for Science and Education; Commission for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation; Coordinating Council of the Program of Basic Scientific Research in the Russian Federation for the long term (2021-2030); Public Council under the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science; Commission of the State Council of the Russian Federation for Youth Policy; Public Expert Council on the national project “Youth and Children”, etc.
In 2019, Eduard Galazhinskiy was appointed the vice-president of the Russian Academy of Education, in 2023 – deputy chairman of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, in 2024 he was elected the vice-president of the Russian Union of Rectors.
