Rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy was elected president of the Russian Union of Rectors and approved its Vice-Presidents, including Rector of Tomsk State University Eduard Galazhinsky. The congress discussed the formation of a new system of higher education, the development of the pilot project, the activities of the Union of Rectors in the international research and educational space, the role of universities in the education of young people, and the involvement of students in research.
The congress of the Russian Union of Rectors was attended by Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Moscow State University, President of the Russian Union of Rectors; Andrey Fursenko, aide to the President of Russia; Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation; Gennady Krasnikov, president of the Russian Academy of Sciences; and more than 600 rectors of Russian universities.
Viktor Sadovnichy noted that higher education should create a model of university education that will ensure the scientific and technological sovereignty of the country in a world of geopolitical instability. This model should meet the needs of the state and the level of global technological development.
In addition, he noted that as the pilot project begins to expand to all Russian universities, the labor market and education should be connected as much as possible, and students should be actively involved in research projects and science.
TSU Rector Eduard Galazhinsky spoke at the Federation Council and at the panel session of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where the pilot project to renew the system of higher education in Russia was discussed, and spoke about what Tomsk State University has done in this area for the 2023/24 academic year.
