The Center for Industrial Robotics of Tomsk State University launched several projects for industrial enterprises. According to Julia Ryzhikh, Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering, specialists are developing systems to search for defects, recognize the type of containers, clean production sites and automate food lines.

The center was created on the basis of the TSU Faculty of Physics and Engineering with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and opened in February 2026. The university became the only university-winner of the third wave of the competition outside the Urals. The main areas of the center are the chemical industry and microelectronics, while developments can be used in other industries.

— Now we have several projects, and they are completely different. One concerns food products, the other is associated with a mobile device for cleaning production sites and safety control. Another big area is vision systems, – said Julia Ryzhikh.

She clarified that the vision system must recognize product defects. It is assumed that this will allow replacing a person on operations that require a long check of a large number of products.

— Defects can be on a laminate, pipe or weld joint. In order for the system to learn how to recognize them, first we need to collect a large database. Having trained the system once, the enterprise gets an increase in the speed and efficiency of control, and defects become more manageable, – explained Julia Ryzhikh.

According to her, another development is a mobile robot for production sites. It will clean the territory in different seasons, including snow clearing, as well as monitor compliance with safety requirements. In particular, the system will be able to determine whether an employee has put on a safety helmet and special clothes.

The center also designs a robotic line on which several devices will recognize different types of containers and remove them from the conveyor.

— For a specific container, you need to design a grip that can reliably take it and move it. This is the task of the specialists of our center, – added the dean of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering.

Among the clients and partners of the center, Julia Ryzhikh named such companies as Derevenskoye Molochko, Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk, LATAT plant, Tomsk Electronic Company and Inspair.
