TSU scientists received awards for their contribution to the development of the country’s technological leadership

More than 100 employees of Tomsk State University received federal, regional, municipal and university awards for education and science. Many scientists received honorary titles, badges of honor, letters of gratitude, diplomas and prizes at the solemn meeting dedicated to the celebration of the Day of Russian Science. Lyudmila Ogorodova, Deputy Governor for Scientific and Technological Development; Eduard Galazhinsky, TSU Rector, Georgy Mayer, TSU President; Alexander Zamyatin, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation; Oleg Merzlyakov, Chairman of the University Workers Union.

The Day of Russian Science is a celebration for those who have devoted their lives to new knowledge and progress, – noted Lyudmila Ogorodova, Deputy Governor. In terms of the number of research achievements the past year was brilliant for the university. This includes its position in the first group of the Priority 2030 project. This is also the launch of ten production facilities for strategically important chemical products, among which is the first production of sodium tartrate dehydrate, which is critical for electronics. Now it fully meets the country’s annual demand, replacing imports. By 2030, within the framework of the project “Low-tonnage chemistry. New materials” it is planned to launch at least 32 production facilities and develop over 60 new technologies.

— Of particular pride is the World-Class Research Center “New Special-Purpose Materials” established at TSU in 2025. TSU demonstrates breakthrough achievements in other areas as well. It became the only university-winner of the competition of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the creation of the Center for the Development of Industrial Robotics. TSU specialists received exclusive access to the domestic neural network accelerator. The university has the necessary facilities to work with artificial intelligence in areas ranging from chemistry and biology to journalism, – said Lyudmila Ogorodova.

She also noted the international cooperation of the region with other countries, which is actively developing due to enormous efforts of TSU. Thus, Tomsk Region works with China, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, offering specific products and technologies. TSU directly exports, for example, lithium zeolite to India and antimicrobial materials to Indonesian hospitals.

— Tomsk State University is not only a research and educational center, but also a driver of the region’s development. Its successes strengthen the position of Tomsk Region as one of the leading intellectual and technological hubs. This year we climbed seven positions in the innovative ranking and joined the top five, and kept the sixth position in the ranking of scientific and technological development, – added the Deputy Governor.

Solemn meeting dedicated to the Day of Russian Science at TSU

As the rector Eduard Galazhinskiy noted, Tomsk State University is one of the research universities which preserves the tradition of obtaining new knowledge, its transfer and the formation of scientific schools.

— The main case confirming the status of the university is its position in the Priority 2030 project. Since the beginning of the project, we have remained almost the only regional university in the first group of “Priority 2030”, – said Eduard Galazhinskiy.

Since 2023, Tomsk State University has been a leader in terms of the transition to a new model of Russian higher education. This imposes a huge responsibility, since the university, along with five other participants in the pilot project, began to develop new educational standards for the country.

Alexander Zamyatin, TSU Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation made a report on the research achievements of the university and key areas of development: low-tonnage chemistry and new materials, security technologies, Russian detectors.

In turn, TSU President Georgy Mayer reminded that in less than two years, in 2028, the university will celebrate its 150th anniversary becoming a holiday for all Siberian science and education. Mentioning the outstanding scientists at the origins of the university and the scientific schools, Georgy Mayer emphasized that their mission is successfully continued by those who now live by the traditions of the university, develop its principles and create new knowledge.

For reference:

The Day of Russian Science is an official holiday of scientists, researchers and everyone associated with the scientific field. It is celebrated on February 8th. There is a particular reason behind this date – the Russian Academy of Sciences was founded on February 8 (January 28 according to the old style) in 1724 by the decree of Peter I. The modern holiday was established by the decree of the President of Russia in 1999. This day is designed to emphasize the outstanding role of domestic science in the development of the state and society, to celebrate the achievements of scientists and draw the attention of young people to research.

Today, TSU has 16,000 students and 1,500 academic staff, including 884 young researchers. The university is among the top 100 world universities in terms of teaching quality and in the top 10 in Russia in subject rankings. In 2025, eight TSU employees joined the top 2% of the most cited scientists in the world, and students won 73 scholarships from the President and Government of the Russian Federation.
