TSU will develop cooperation in the field of rare-earth metals and medicine with Myanmar universities

An online workshop was held at Tomsk State University. It united the representatives of TSU and Myanmar universities who discussed the opportunities for cooperation in the field of science and education in the field of rare-earth metals, medicine, and psychodiagnostics.

TSU was represented by the World-Class Research Center “New Special-Purpose Materials”, as well as the strategic technological project “Security Technologies” (Priority 2030) and a large scientific project “Development of the fundamental foundations of new life safety technologies based on the integration of multimodal radio wave and optical remote sensing and artificial intelligence”. Rectors of 11 Myanmar universities took part in the seminar.

– We are aimed at exporting our technologies, and we are one of the first Russian universities to master the educational, scientific and technological market of Myanmar. This cooperation will make it possible to test our developments and technologies abroad and bring them to a new level, – said Alexander Vorozhtsov, director of the World-Class Research Center.

Online workshop between TSU and Myanmar universities

The participants agreed to conclude the memorandums of cooperation with a number of universities in Myanmar. The specialists also discussed the creation of short-term exchange programs for teachers, field practices at the Faculty of Geology and Geography. The team of the laboratory of medical alloys and shape memory implants is ready to send their materials to Myanmar hospitals for clinical trials. A technical assignment is already being prepared for a joint research to develop materials to replace extensive soft tissue defects, taking into account the physiology of Myanmar patients and the conditions for the use of these materials in this country.

TSU Vice-Rector for International Affairs Artyom Rykun proposed to hold an additional workshop with the University of Tomsk, so that it becomes an entry point for the development of collaboration in the field of medical research. For example, TSU team developed the first robotic prosthetic foot in Russia. It is designed to help patients regain their natural gait, the first sample has already been assembled.

The workshop was organized by the Faculty of Historical and Political Sciences. The event was prepared by Larisa Deriglazova, professor of the Department of World Politics, and moderated by Prof. Vladimir Rumyantsev, head of the Department of Oriental Studies.

It should be added that since 2023, at the invitation of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the delegation of Tomsk State University regularly takes part in the conference on the development of science and technology – CSTD. Currently, there are 8 agreements between TSU and Myanmar organizations.

Students from Myanmar at TSU mainly study three areas: physics, drones and robotics, international relations, and also give priority to graduate and doctoral programs.
