The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia announced the list of universities which will receive a special grant in the track Research Leadership under the Priority 2030 program. Tomsk State University is in the first group of winners among the research universities and will receive funding for breakthrough research and social and economic development of the region.

“This win is a result of the universities’ major collaborative efforts and it will affect the development of TSU, universities that are partners in the University of Tomsk project, and the whole region. TSU’s nearest goals are a recombination of the research agenda and focus on research frontiers, an ecosystemic approach, and interdisciplinary and transindustrial interaction. I heartily thank the university staff for the productive work that brought us this win,” commented Eduard V. Galazhinsky, TSU Rector.

Two more Tomsk universities won the grant in Territorial and (or) Industrial Leadership under the Priority 2030 program: Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics and Siberian Medical University.

“The total win of Tomsk universities demonstrates that we were right in choosing the development strategy of the Tomsk higher education environment. The strategy is based on the University of Tomsk project, proactive research, collaboration with the real economy and science-intense business. In the Tomsk Region, science and industry go hand in hand, and this main university competition has proved it once again,” noted Sergey Zhvachkin, governor of the Tomsk region.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia announced on their Telegram channel that the winners of the Priority 2030 program are 46 universities from 22 regions of all the federal districts. Winners from the first group will receive the main part of the grant and an additional 994 million RUB; the second group will receive 426 million RUB in addition to the main part; and the third group will receive the main part and an additional 142 million RUB.

The federal program Priority 2030 aims to form a broad pool of universities that will lead the creation of new scientific knowledge, technologies, and developments and implement them in the Russian economy and social sphere. The large-scale governmental program envisions transforming the ordinary model of a university and developing the universities as not only educational but world-class research centers.
