TSU won the competition of the Ministry of Digitalization for training top-level IT specialists

The Russian Ministry of Finance and the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation summed up the results of the competitive selection of universities to receive grants for launching advanced IT education. Tomsk State University is among the winners of the competition. The new project is aimed at launching flagship programs of higher education in universities, which will provide the labor market with highly qualified IT specialists. The training will start in September 2025. Advanced IT specialists will be trained within the framework of the national project “Data Economy”.

– The contest and the national project have two major goals: first, to create or define a division (center) in universities that will be responsible for training top IT specialists. In TSU, the Higher IT School serves such a platform. The second task is to develop new training programs for advanced IT specialists. It is planned to launch this stage in July, explains Oleg Zmeev, academic director of TSU HITs. – The flagship program at TSU will be attended by 100 people. We would like to acknowledge the support of our partners, especially Gazprombank.

It is planned that by 2030 the participants of the national project “Data Economy” will train at least 3.5 thousand advanced IT developers capable of solving complex tasks and rapidly enhancing their career opportunities.

– Winning the competition was a logical step in the IT education at TSU, notes Evgeny Lukov, TSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. – The Higher IT School has long been renowned as one of the best in the country for training software engineers. This is not our assessment – the quality of education is confirmed by numerous achievements at Russian and world championships, the salary level of graduates, numerous partnerships with leading companies, and high competition for admission. The reputation of TSU Higher IT School is very high in our country, the head of the school Oleg Zmeev is a recognized expert in discussing a wide range of issues related to IT education, digitalization, personnel for the digital economy and related topics.

As Evgeny Lukov specifies, TSU is ready to cooperate with colleagues at the Big University of Tomsk to form a unified school of “computer science”, which will turn Tomsk into a leading center of the country and the world in this area.

For reference: The goal of the national project “Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State” is the digital transformation of state and municipal administration, economy and social sphere by ensuring cyber security, uninterrupted access to the Internet, training qualified personnel for the IT industry, digital public administration, development of domestic digital platforms, software, advanced developments and artificial intelligence.
