Tomsk State University took was second in the second season of the “I know: EdTech” award of the media group “Komsomolskaya Pravda” with the “In Russian” digital platform. The project was awarded in the nomination “The best application of modern technologies in traditional educational institutions”. The results were summed up in Moscow after the public evaluation of the projects by the expert council.
— The competition focused on several aspects: two stages of popular voting and the third stage – the expert assessment. Second place in the “I Know: EdTech” award and expert recognition for us is a sign that we are moving in the right direction, creating a really useful and socially significant product. This is the merit of the entire TSU team and our partners, which inspires new developments in the field of digital education, – says Yulia Mishenina, director of the Center for Pedagogical Design and Online Learning at the TSU Institute of Distance Education.
The “In Russian” platform is used to prepare for exams for a patent, temporary residence permit and residence permit, as well as in the Russian language, the history of Russia and the basics of the legislation of the Russian Federation. The system implements adaptive learning algorithms, and the project uses AI technologies to assess speaking skills.
The interface is available in the total of 16 languages languages, including Russian, English, Tajik and Uzbek and others. Students may begin their training even before arriving in Russia, which allows preparing in advance for study, work and other mandatory procedures.
— As of January 2026, more than 9,000 people are studying on the “In Russian” platform, 80% of which take the “Russian language for life: beginner”. The average time of each course is about two months, – says Yulia Mishenina.
The platform combines three key areas. The first is materials for sociocultural adaptation: users get acquainted with basic life scenarios, from opening a bank account and calling an ambulance to paperwork and understanding traditions and legislative norms.
The second includes training modules in the Russian language based on real life situations. The third is an adaptive simulator that automatically adopts to the level of user training and adjusts tasks depending on the results.
Experts noted that TSU solution is not a set of online lessons, but a fixed digital environment with input diagnostics, an individual trajectory and regular feedback.
— The product that we developed at Tomsk State University is definitely important both for people who want to learn Russian and for opinion leaders who would be ready to recommend our technology for the end user. In 2026, the platform will develop even more actively, we plan to increase the number of users create new study content, – sums up Yulia Mishenina.
