The Academic Council of TSU approved the decision to establish a new structural subdivision - the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. The Institute was the result of the merger of the Faculty of Informatics and the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics.

The combination of the resources of the two faculties is dictated by the rapid development of the sciences related to the analysis of big data. The Institute should become a university competence centre in big data, cybersecurity, and modern approaches to management.

- The goal of the Institute is to train specialists and carry out world-class scientific research in computer science and advancement in the subject rating of Computer Science by consolidating the personnel and material and financial resources of the faculties, - said Sergei Sushchenko, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, at the meeting of the Academic Council.

The process of integrating the faculties into the Institute will go on until the end of this year, but in September the first students will appear at the new institute. It will consist of two departments: the Department of Applied Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science.

The new institute will have five areas of Bachelor's programmes, one Specialty programme, and four areas of Master’s programmes; three postgraduate studies will be realized. Academic partners are RUDN University, Institute of Control Sciences of RAS, Institute of Computational Technologies of SB RAS, TU Dresden, Arizona State University, and Goldsmiths College University of London. Business partners will be the companies 1C, Rubius, Elecard, IndorSoft, SibEDGE, SPACE Technologies, Positive Technologies, and VDOM BOX Research.
